About the job Infrastructure Systems Engineer (Linux)

Infrastructure Systems Engineer (Linux)

Our client seeks a systems engineer proficient in Linux to join its Infrastructure Engineering team. This is a hands-on technical role within a cross-platform engineering team responsible for core technology infrastructure.

Infrastructure Engineering designs and maintains the firm's operating systems, authentication systems, databases, virtualization infrastructure, core network services, and messaging and endpoints on Windows and Linux in both our internal- and external-facing environments. This engineer would be tasked with the design, implementation, and integration of infrastructure systems, particularly but not exclusively on Linux-based systems.

  • The ideal candidate should have a degree in computer science (or another technical discipline) or comparable work experience. Proficiency in Python, Java, or another similar language is required. An in-depth knowledge of Linux-based systems and excellent networking, tooling, and automation skills (e.g., using Python, Puppet, etc.) are also prerequisites.
  • Previous experience with the design and end-to-end implementation of performant, reliable, and secure infrastructure systems is essential, as are superb troubleshooting capabilities and experience with diagnostic/tracing tools.
  • Experience with declarative configuration management, automated build, deployment, and CI/CD systems is highly desirable, as is a working knowledge of core infrastructure technologies such as DNS, DHCP, and Kerberos. A working knowledge of Windows, network protocols, information security concepts, databases, and large-scale storage is preferred.
  • Outstanding communication skills are imperative, as the role will entail significant interaction with different departments in the firm.
