About the job Product Designer

Our client ison a mission to give every spreadsheet user the power to be their own software engineer. Their next generation spreadsheet has the look and feel of a Google Sheet, natively connects to a growing library of data sources, and seamlessly links to a drag and drop interface builder. It's a new, fully integrated way to build applications -- one where all of the business logic lives in spreadsheet formulas instead of code.

They are a small, tight team of ambitious, multi-disciplinary entrepreneurs. Many of us studied liberal arts in addition to computer science, and they spend a lot of time thinking about systems, history, and how to choose their spots for innovation.

The office is in downtown NYC and they believe that working in person is better for collaboration and creativity at this early stage. Lunchtime conversation topics vary wildly from machine learning ethics to TMZ videos and cringeworthy puns.

Who they are looking for

They are looking for a generalist whose superpower is understanding the technical complexities and possibilities of design decisions. You quickly grasp technical concepts, empathise with non-technical end users, and strike the right balance between technical expressiveness and conceptual simplicity. Comfort with Javascript, HTML, and CSS are a huge plus.

What you'll work on

Their gnarliest (and most interesting!) problems involve breaking down technically complex problems into abstractions, and translating programming functionality into an interface that feels approachable for non-programmers.

  • Adding side effects to spreadsheets in a way that doesn't break the existing "contract" where everything always runs in real-time
  • Applying constraints to their drag & drop UI builder so it's impossible for end users to build ugly Lido apps
  • Creating novel point-and-click interfaces for users to interact with external APIs in different contexts -GET'ing large chunks of data, POST'ing individual rows, and everything in between
  • Extending the core Lido spreadsheet to support polling-based use cases (think Slack bots that trigger on adding a new database row)
  • Establishing the design patterns, tools, and processes around their design system to allow their product teams to move quickly while improving quality and consistency
